PUBLIC ORDER (PROHIBITION OF ARMS AND AMMUNITION) (NEW DROBO AND JAPEKROM INSTRUMENT, 1983 (EI 13).

 

WHEREAS the Secretary responsible for the Interior is satisfied that it is necessary in the interest of public order to prohibit the possession or the carrying of arms and ammunition within the New Drobo and Japekrom areas in the Brong-Ahafo Region;

NOW THEREFORE in exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary responsible for the Interior by section 2 of the Public Order Decree, 1972 (N.R.C.D. 68) this Instrument is made this 18th day of July, 1983.

Section 1—Prohibition of Possession and Carrying of Arms and Ammunition.

Subject to paragraph 3 of this Instrument no person shall possess or carry any arms or ammunition within the New Drobo and Japekrom areas in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

Section 2—Deposit of Arms and Ammunition with Police Officer.

Any person who before the coming into force of this Instrument is in possession of any arms or ammunition within any of the areas referred to in paragraph 1, shall on the coming into force of this Instrument deposit forthwith such arms or ammunition with the officer-in-charge of the nearest police station.

Section 3—Instrument not Applicable to Police Officers, Etc.

The provisions of this Instrument shall not apply to any member of the Armed Forces on duty or a Police Officer on duty or any person duly authorised in writing by the Secretary. 

Section 4—Interpretation.

In this Instrument—

“ammunition " includes explosives, all munition of war and all materials for loading firearms;

“arms" includes firearms and offensive weapons of all descriptions, artillery, apparatus for the discharge of all kinds of projectives, explosive or gas diffusing flame-throwers, bombs, grenades, machine guns and rifled small-bore breech-loading weapons of all kinds, and includes also all parts of any of the foregoing;

“firearms" includes any gun, rifle, machine gun, cap-gun, flint-lock gun, pistol, revolver, cannon or other firearm, and any air gun, air rifle, or air pistol, whether whole or in detached pieces;

“offensive weapon" means an article made or adapted for use for causing injury to the person or intended by the person having it with him for such use by him.
